First Supper

Tonight we had our first dinner in our new home (insert hearty cheer). Some people use china, we used paper bowls. Some like to eat by candle light, we used headlamps (and tried not to blind each other by looking someone directly in the face!). And who needs an electric range when you have a wood stove at your disposal?
On other fronts, the living room is now free of all nasty carpet as well as all the tar paper that was laid under said nasty carpet and about seven garbage bags of debris are sitting on our porch awaiting a trip to the dump. If you need to feel like you've accomplished something for the day, I suggest filling seven bags of trash from your house. It's a great sensation.
And thus ends another day at the Boydstun place.

The Projects Commence

Installing a new deadbolt was the first project on the list. It took longer than expected, but I'm sure it won't be the only project that doesn't quite go according to schedule! When employing the help of free labor it's alway best to tackle an exciting project like tearing out a wall...

Or creatively installing a chimney pipe on our new, free wood stove (courtesy of Larry and Sharon Burke)!

Home Tour

Welcome to our new home! We thought we'd start off by giving you a little tour and sharing some of the inspiration we have for its future appearance. It's not a complete tour, but hopefully it will help you get a feel for the place and see some of the great potential for it that we do.
Living room/dining room:
Now Future

Fireplace:
Now Future (to be completed with some type of stone work)
Aside from the fireplace and some fresh paint this view probably won't change much (and no, the dog is not ours). =o)
Moving up stairs we have some not so lovely murals that are going to quickly be painted over! We're thinking light sagey green color called "Hunky Dory."
The larger of the upstairs bedrooms measuring approximately 13' 4" x 19' 6":

Now Future (The paint color is a bit brighter than we're planning in this picture, but it's the general idea. And the door will not be painted yellow, it's supposed to replicate a light wood.)
I think one of our favorite parts about the upstairs is that both bedrooms have really neat little balconies off of them. A perfect place to enjoy the sunrise in the morning with a steaming cup of coffee (it would be even better if I like coffee!).
To sum things up we have the kitchen:

Before Now (it was stripped right before we got it)
And this is a rough idea of how we foresee it in the future.
Thanks for coming along on our tour. We'd love to give it too you in person any time you'd like!

Proud New Homeowners

Well everyone, it's the news you've all been waiting for! (Sorry Mom & Dad not THE news, no grandbabys yet!) We finally have the keys to our new home or more appropriately our new project. We are planning to use this blog to keep you all updated on our progress and chronicle the projects we tackle in our house "just off Boydstun Street." The actual address is 505 Hamell Ln. but the first time it was listed for sale it was listed under a Boydstun St. address and the name stuck: "The Boydstun Place." However to make the matter more complicated Hamell Ln. is only an easment road and we plan to install access to our house on a planned city street that we think is supposed to be called "Frost St." So much for UPS finding our house! I wouldn't send any packages to any of the before mentioned addresses! Anyway, the projects have begun so check back often to see how "The Boydstun Projects" are progressing!
